HP ScanJet scanners and Microsoft « Windows 95 drivers - how to install
The following instructions are for pre-installed, non-Windows 95 scanning
software, HP DeskScan II, version 2.2.
HP C2502 CARD (ISA WITHOUT SWITCHES)
1. Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the
Win 95 INF directory.
a. Open MS-DOS prompt by clicking on Start menu - Programs and selecting
MS-DOS Prompt.
b. Insert the driver diskette in the floppy drive.
c. At the MS-DOS prompt copy HPSJCLAS.DLL file from the diskette to the
Win95 system directory. The following assumes that your diskette
drive is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\hpsjclas.dll c:\windows\system
d. At the MS-DOS prompt copy SCANJET.INF file from the diskette to the
Win95 INF directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\scanjet.inf c:\windows\inf
e. At the MS-DOS prompt type exit to return to windows.
2. Use "Add New Hardware" in the Control Panel to add a SCSI controller.
a. Select "No" when Windows 95 asks if you want it to search for new
hardware.
b. Select "SCSI controllers" as the hardware type. Push "Next".
c. Push the "Have Disk..." button when asked to identify the manufacturer
and model for your new hardware. Click "OK" to copy manufacturer files
from a:\.
d. Select "Symbios Logic 53C400A (HP Version) SCSI Adapter" as the model
for your new hardware. Click "Next".
e. Windows 95 will display which resources it plans to use for your new
hardware. Click "Next" then "Finish".
3. Turn off the computer. If the card is not already physically in the
computer, insert it now. Connect the scanner to the card's connector.
Make sure the scanner is terminated. Make sure the scanner is turned ON
prior to step 4.
4. Turn on the computer. You will be asked for the disk with the drivers
on it. Specify the diskette drive location (usually a:\) .
NOTE:
If you are not asked for the scanner drivers at bootup (after you log in),
and your scanner was turned on before and during boot, go to the System
control panel (Press Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double
click on System. Click on the device manager tab.). If there is a yellow
exclamation mark next to the "Symbios Logic 53C400A (HP Version) SCSI
Adapter" you need to adjust the resources for your card (See Windows 95
documentation for more information). Click on "Symbios Logic 53C400A
(HP Version) SCSI Adapter", and the Properties button, select the
"Resources" tab to examine possible device conflicts. If the "conflict
device list" area shows "No conflicts" try checking the "Use automatic
settings" checkbox. If there is a conflict, adjust the resources (See
Windows 95 documentation). When you are done press "OK". If values
selected are correct, your scanner should be detected and you will be
prompted for the driver diskette.
5. Your system will reboot automatically.
6. Your drivers are now installed. Use "Scanner Test" to test the installation.
NOTE:
SCSI address test is not supported with Windows 95.
THIRD-PARTY SCSI CARD
1. Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the
Win 95 INF directory
a. Open MS-DOS prompt by clicking on Start menu - Programs and selecting
MS-DOS Prompt.
b. Insert the driver diskette in the floppy drive.
c. At the MS-DOS prompt copy HPSJCLAS.DLL file from the diskette to the
Win95 system directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\hpsjclas.dll c:\windows\system
d. At the MS-DOS prompt copy SCANJET.INF file from the diskette to the
Win95 INF directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\scanjet.inf c:\windows\inf
2. Use the "Device Manager" tab in "System" in the Control Panel to verify
that a SCSI controller has already been installed. If not use "Add New
Hardware" in the Control Panel to add the SCSI controller you own. If
the SCSI controller you own is not listed as a choice in "Add New
Hardware," you must contact the SCSI controllers manufacturer to obtain
a Windows 95 driver.
3. Turn off the computer. If the card is not already physically in the
computer, insert it now. Connect the scanner to the card's connector.
Make sure that if the scanner is the last device on the SCSI chain and
that it is terminated. Make sure the scanner is turned ON before step 4.
4. Turn on the computer. You will be asked for the disk with the drivers
on it.
NOTE:
If you are not asked for the scanner drivers at bootup (after you
log in), and your scanner was turned on before and during boot, go
to the System control panel. (Press Start, Settings, Control
Panel, then double click on System. Click on the device manager
tab.) Examine your Device configuration, if there is a yellow
exclamation mark next to your SCSI card you might have to adjust
your card resources. Please consult Windows 95 documentation,
your SCSI card documentation or your SCSI card manufacturer.
5. Your system will reboot automatically
6. Your drivers are now installed. Use "Scanner Test" to test the
installation.
NOTE:
SCSI address test is not supported with Windows 95.
HP C2503 CARD (MICROCHANNEL WITHOUT SWITCHES)
1. Identify what Input/Output (I/O) region your interface card is using.
Consult the documentation that came with your computer to find out
how to do this.
2. Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the
Win 95 INF directory.
a. Open MS-DOS prompt by clicking on Start menu - Programs and
selecting MS-DOS Prompt.
b. Insert the driver diskette in the floppy drive.
c. At the MS-DOS prompt copy HPSJCLAS.DLL file from the diskette to
the Win95 system directory. The following assumes that your diskette
drive is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\hpsjclas.dll c:\windows\system
d. At the MS-DOS prompt copy SCANJET.INF file from the diskette to the
Win95 INF directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\scanjet.inf c:\windows\inf
3. Use "Add New Hardware" in the Control Panel to add your scanner and
interface card.
a. Select "No" when Windows 95 asks if you want it to search for new

b. Select "Other devices" as the hardware type. Push "Next".
c. Push the "Have Disk..." button when asked to identify the
manufacturer and model for your new hardware. Click "OK" to copy

d. Select "HP ScanJet on C2503" as the model for your new hardware. Push
"Next".
e. Windows 95 will display which resources it plans to use for your new
hardware. If those do not match the resources your card is set to,
do not allow your computer to be shut down. Instead, go to the
"Device Manager" tab in "System" in the control panel and modify the
resources allocated for the "HP ScanJet on C2503" to match the card's
settings.
4. Turn off the computer. If the card is not already physically in the
computer, insert it now. Connect the scanner to the card's connector.
Turn on the computer.
5. Your drivers are now installed. Use "Scanner Test" to test the
installation.
NOTE:
The SCSI address test is not supported with Windows 95.
HP C1752/C1753 INTERFACE CARD (ISA OR MICROCHANNEL WITH SWITCHES)
1. Identify what memory region the switches on your interface card are
set to. Consult the documentation that came with your scanner to find
out how to do this.
2. Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the
Win 95 INF directory.
a. Open MS-DOS prompt by clicking on Start menu - Programs and
selecting MS-DOS Prompt.
b. Insert the driver diskette in to the floppy drive.
c. At the MS-DOS prompt copy HPSJCLAS.DLL file from the diskette to the
Win95 system directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\hpsjclas.dll c:\windows\system
d. At the MS-DOS prompt copy SCANJET.INF file from the diskette to the
Win95 INF directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive is
a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\scanjet.inf c:\windows\inf
3. Use "Add New Hardware" in the Control Panel to add your scanner and
interface card.

Manager" tab in "System" in the control panel and modify the resources
allocated for the "HP ScanJet IIc/IIp on C1752/CI753" to match the card's
settings.

computer, insert it now. Connect the scanner to the card's connector.
Turn on the computer.
5. Your drivers are now installed. Use "Scanner Test" to test the
installation.
NOTE:
The SCSI address test is not supported with Windows 95.
HP SCANJET PLUS SCANNER AND INTERFACE CARD
1. Identify what memory region and interrupt the switches and jumpers on your
interface card are set to. Consult the documentation that came with your
scanner to find out how to do this.
2. Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the
Win 95 INF directory.
a. Open MS-DOS prompt by clicking on Start menu - Programs and selecting
MS-DOS Prompt.
b. Insert the driver diskette in to the floppy drive.
c. At the MS-DOS prompt copy HPSJCLAS.DLL file from the diskette to the
Win95 system directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\hpsjclas.dll c:\windows\system
d. At the MS-DOS prompt copy SCANJET.INF file from the diskette to the
Win95 INF directory. The following assumes that your diskette drive
is a: and Win 95 was installed on C:\Windows:
copy a:\scanjet.inf c:\windows\inf
